Ron Pouwels

Ron Pouwels is the Chief of Child Protection at UNICEF China, which he joined in September 2014 following four and a half years as Regional Advisor for Child Protection for UNICEF's Regional Office for South Asia covering eight countries. He has been working in the area of child rights and child protection for over 25 years at national, regional and global level with NGOs, UNHCR and UNICEF. Before re-joining UNICEF in 2010, he was the Senior Advisor for Refugee Children with UNHCR HQ in Geneva for five years and additionally worked for UNHCR in Ethiopia and Kenya, for UNICEF in Zimbabwe, for a local child rights NGO in Tanzania and for Defence for Children International in the Netherlands. His work has included policy development, communication and advocacy, capacity development, and building and strengthening inter-agency networks both in development and humanitarian settings. He has Masters degrees in Law and in History from Leiden University, in the Netherlands.
