Discover Romania

Soon it’s time for Romania and I’am very excited to see what awaits us there. We are four people from Switzerland and there we meet four other IKEA co-workers from Hong Kong. Together we will visit some nurseries and schools and have a look how our support makes a difference.

For over twenty years Safe the Children is working hard to improve the quality of life for children and fighting for their rights. With every soft toy sold in IKEA stores during November and December, the IKEA Foundation donates 1 euro to projects from Save the Children and UNICEF. Since 2003, around 57 million euro were donated, supporting 90 projects in 45 countries and helping more than 10 million children to receive better education. For me these are impressive numbers!

It means to show teachers child-friendly teaching methods and pay for school equipment. This way parents trust better in schools and more children can visit it. Save the Children also support the Roma children, who are often socially and economically disadvantaged and don’t feel welcome at class. I am glad to be able to learn more about the situation of children in Romania.

It’s great that IKEA support these projects and I’m proud to be part of it.

At first we will travel from Zürich to Bucharest, where we are welcomed by Safe the Children Romania. In the coming days we will visit towns like Targoviste, Sotanga and Calarasi. In each case, we will visit the nursery and school on site and meet parents and teachers.

For the kids we have prepared some small gifts and together with the team from IKEA Hong Kong will play a few games with the children together. I’m excited how the children react to our visit and I am looking forward to see what they have prepared for us too.

During our 5 day trip we will have time to ask any questions and to get an insight into the country and its people. And I will try to share my thoughts and feelings with you and hope to take a lot of impressive pictures.

I’m sure it will be unforgettable!
