Our first day in Yichang: excited to see UNICEF programmes

Around 11am, all eight co-workers from IKEA Korea met together and prepared for departure.

From Seoul (Incheon Airport) to Beijing it took around two hours and, from Beijing to Yichang, it took around three hours. At Beijing International Airport we met two people from UNICEF China.

We each had a brief introduction and then flew to Yichang. After we arrived at Yichang, we moved to the place where we were staying and had a small meeting and dinner with the UNICEF China team and Mrs Xiang Ping (from the Provincial Women’s Federation). We learned that the Early Childhood development programme in Hubei started in 2013.

None of the co-workers from IKEA Korea has visited Yichang before. We are very excited and looking forward to visiting the centres the IKEA Foundation supports. Before getting started, we are very curious about how the IKEA Foundation actually supports young children and their families and how its donations practically have changed their quality of life. After visiting the centres tomorrow, we will discover more facts and get feedback from children and their families. We’re so excited for the next days and we will keep sharing more stories from China.
