We are all excited for this eye-opening experience. IKEA Taiwan has an opportunity to be part of the IWitness project, enabling us to visit the Save the Children projects and also to see schools and children helped by our Soft Toys for Education campaign! I regard myself lucky to be part of this experience since I’m also responsible for this Sustainability project as a marketing specialist.
After contacting and discussing with colleagues in Hong Kong, we decided to participate in the local project that Save the Children delivers in Yunnan, China, which includes visiting Mojiang for two primary schools and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Center.
After deciding on the time and location for this visit, we put up posters inside our stores and also made a private social group on Facebook, only designed for IKEA co-workers. This was created to send out the relevant information and to recruit them to become ambassadors for their store. They could use this opportunity to describe their personalities and motivations to be part of the team, and also demonstrate their specialties in any possible way. Some introduced themselves through short video clips; others made every effort to show their skills in writing and taking photographs. The final decision was made by each store and warehouse’s manager. A total of 8 partners in the team come from the HR and Marketing departments of the service office, 4 stores and the warehouse. In addition, we invited one videographer to help us record different moments during the visit in order to share with other colleagues and customers in the future.
When I first met other partners in the beginning of September, I truly felt their passion and compassion, their love for children, and love for challenging themselves with various activities. We excitedly exchanged good ideas on any possible fun activities to do with the local children there. I could truly see our enthusiasm, and none of us can wait for this trip to happen!
We are departing in 24 hours!
