We have a dream at IKEA

We have a dream at IKEA – to create better opportunities for 100 million children!

“Mommy, can I paint a picture of my kindergarten here in Sweden so you can show it to the children in Indonesia. And then, maybe they can paint a picture of their school for me?”  Five-year-old Adam is bubbling with enthusiasm while asking a million questions about the children in Indonesia. He is bursting with curiosity and it is so contagious that it is impossible not to see the world through the eyes of a child.

Adam's drawing
Adam outside his kindergarten in Sweden on a sunny day, but when the rainbow is up. The red staircase shows the way to the different classrooms.

I want to see the world through the eyes of the Indonesian children! I want to experience their life, their joy, their sorrows, their laughter, and their dreams. I want to truly understand and experience firsthand the impact that IKEA Foundation and Save the Children have and how it makes a real difference in the world.

I am honoured and proud to be a Global IWitness Citizen. I am excited that IKEA Industry Group together with IKEA Retail is visiting Indonesia in order to further the understanding and knowledge of IKEA’s philanthropic activities so that we as co-workers can feel proud, involved and inspired by the great work that is contributed by the IKEA Foundation.

I am packing my suitcase and preparing myself to travel across the globe, to a country and culture completely new to me. I am travelling as an IKEA co-worker, but also as a mother who truly believes that our children are our future, that we together can create better opportunities for children all over the world. I am travelling with excitement and hope and maybe along the way, I can bring back a drawing to Adam from the children of Indonesia….
