Why I want to see Africa

I am very interested in the education of children in my country (Slovakia) and the world, especially in the developing world.

Right from my childhood I have desired to travel to Africa and other remote places. I have watched various Africa documentaries, about the education there, how it works and I would like to have seen it live, experienced it firsthand.

While studying, I developed coursework on drop-in centers for children and youth. I attended several camps with children from the children’s home and children‘s crisis center. I work as a volunteer in several organizations for helping children, drop-in centers, children’s homes, as well as occasional collaborations with Unicef, and a children’s telephone helpline.

I work as a volunteer with homeless people, in Notabene, and with an association for people with mental disorders, where I deal with clients and their children. When I was younger, I was on the EVS (European Voluntary Service) in Belgium, where I also worked with youth. Thus, this last year (2011) the Sofia organization has nominated me for the Bratislava volunteer of the year.

Therefore, I would like to see children’s issues in other countries, and that is why I decided to go to Africa. I believe that the experience will show me the way and I will learn a lot ….
