Imagine that with CHF 1.50 (€1 euro), five children in a developing country can be supported with school books and pencils!
Through the Soft Toys for Education campaign, the IKEA Foundation supports projects from Save the Children and UNICEF. For every sold soft toy, the IKEA Foundation donates €1 euro to UNICEF and Save the Children. Thanks to the campaign, over 10 million children in more than 45 countries have received a better education since 2003, when the first Soft Toy campaign took place. That is wonderful, and it shows me that if we all (IKEA customers, IKEA co-workers together with our partners) take small actions, we can contribute to big results.
Through the IKEA Foundation’s IWitness programme, I am going to visit projects in Bangladesh. I am really happy to get the chance to see and experience the difference we at IKEA, together with Save the Children, have achieved so far.
I am sure this is going to be a life-changing experience for me and I can’t wait until we start our journey – every day I try to imagine how it will be and what to expect. I will be a stranger in one of the most densely populated countries, and I will be exposed to unfamiliar smells, tastes, colours, weather and traffic conditions as well as cultural and religious habits.
But beside all those unfamiliar things, I will meet local people with similar dreams, beliefs and needs, and I can’t wait to meet those people and to spend time with them talking, laughing and sharing experiences and … I will keep you posted.
