Care for Children Royal Patron Prince Michael of Kent to announce IKEA Foundation Partnership

From 24-26 February 2014 a delegation from Care for Children, a charity with 15 years’ experience working with China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs to help place orphans into good local families, will travel to Hong Kong with its Royal Patron His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, cousin to Her Majesty the Queen of England, to formally announce the charity’s partnership with the IKEA Foundation.

Funds from the IKEA Foundation, totalling in EURO 2.68 million over three years, will enable Care for Children to grow its work in China and further develop its pilot project in Thailand. The grant will go toward training more family placement workers, seeing more children being placed into families and developing deeper relations with the charity’s partner institutions.

Following events at both the British Consulate of Hong Kong and the British Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, Prince Michael will join the Care for Children delegation in Hanoi from 26-28 February for an exploratory trip to seek opportunities in expanding Care for Children’s work to Vietnam.

“I would like to thank the IKEA Foundation for believing in the vision of care for children. With this new partnership, we have the wonderful opportunity to build and grow the organisation. We aim to reach even more children that have started with the least in life, and give them the chance to be part of a family.” says Robert Glover OBE, Founder and Executive Director, Care for Children.

“I’m honoured to join care for children in Hong Kong and Hanoi to mark this significant time in their history.” His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent said.

Jonathan Spampinato, Head of Strategic Planning and Communications, IKEA Foundation said “Here at the IKEA Foundation we believe that every child has a right to a safe place to call home, so we’re funding Care for Children’s efforts to ensure disadvantaged children in Asia have the opportunity to grow up in local, loving family homes.”

The IKEA Foundation aims to improve opportunities for children and youth in developing countries by funding holistic, long-term programmes that can create substantial, lasting change. The Foundation works with strong strategic partners applying innovative approaches to achieve large-scale results in four fundamental areas of a child’s life: a place to call home; a healthy start in life; a quality education; and sustainable family income. Currently-funded programmes benefit an estimated 100 million children.
