A Better World Starts at Home campaign energises communities around the world

From now until 26 May, we are joining IKEA stores around the world to celebrate the everyday climate heroes who bring light and power to their communities.

Worldwide, millions of impoverished families lack access to safe, reliable energy sources. Many are forced to rely on charcoal or firewood to light and heat their homes and to cook their food. These fuels are becoming scarce and expensive, not only requiring families to spend hours of their time and a huge proportion of their income on energy but also polluting their homes with fumes that make them ill and shorten their lives by years.

Communities need energy to power their businesses, schools and hospitals. Parents need it for earning an income, and for cooking and refrigerating food. And, as daylight fades, children need it for safety, studying, and playing with family and friends.

We are committed to powering communities with renewable energy.

That is why we are supporting A Better World Starts at Home campaign by investing over €40 million in programmes run by our five partners—Habitat for Humanity, One Acre Fund, Rainforest Alliance, SELCO Foundation and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency—to bring renewable energy to families, helping them power up their communities… and their futures.

Because energy gives families power.

And renewable energy gives families a future.

Everyday climate heroes

Throughout the campaign, we will share stories of everyday climate heroes from our five partners who work in parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
