Emissions Reduction

We are committed to drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2021, the board of the IKEA Foundation decided to make an additional €1 billion available over the subsequent five years – on top of our annual grant making budget – to accelerate a reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions.

The scientific evidence is clear: we only have a small window of time in which to drastically cut our emissions. We need to act now.

With this new funding, we support initiatives which can deliver greenhouse gas reductions quickly and efficiently. This includes replacing polluting sources of energy with renewable ones and providing access to energy to communities around the world. This approach aims to unlock further funding which can drive and scale sustainable models and expedite the energy transition in line with the Paris Agreement targets.
