Governance and Society
We see that climate solutions are intricately connected to broader societal and economic challenges, such as inequality, development, economic growth and health.
The Society and Governance Portfolio operates at the intersection of four critical areas: frameworks and instruments to achieve 1.5°C, citizen empowerment, media understanding, and collaborative action that impacts behavioural change and active engagement.
We see that climate solutions are intricately connected to broader societal and economic challenges, such as inequality, development, economic growth and health. In light of this, we recognise the importance of strategic communications for raising awareness and encouraging people to voice their concerns, influence policies and achieve decarbonisation. We also support campaigns that change behaviours and policies, actively participating in discussions around the fossil-fuel phase-out and ensuring our partners seize opportunities amid evolving global dynamics.
While our work supports mitigation efforts in the Global North, the Society and Governance Portfolio acknowledges the significance of the Global South in achieving the goals set out in the Paris Agreement. We focus on supporting efforts at the forefront of the transformative shift we need, recognising the pivotal role of adaptation and resilience and the importance of avoiding fossil fuel lock-in.
